USA Softball

I was just reading something on one of the Olympics sites that said USA would have some problems with perennial powerhouse China. Which China team are they talking about? Are they talking about the China team that went 1-11 or 1-15 against the NPF last year including four drubbings by the league champion? Seriously?

I'd say Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) would have a better shot against the US than China. Though the Venezuelan team has some spunk and will try to give the US a run for their money in the first game, I really don't think that with three super-power pitchers and the offensive line-up put together by USA Softball, that there is anything to worry about. US will get their fourth gold and this one shouldn't even be close.

Well wait, Canada has some good talent in Caitlin Lever and Hayley Wickenshiser. Lever is the daughter of former NHLer Rod Lever and Hayley's brother Doug played in the NHL. Oh yeah, Hayley also represents Canada in women's hockey during the Winter Olympics. The Canadians are a scrappy bunch who can challenge the US, but there is just too much to the Americans...so long as they don't pull a men's hockey and choke but I doubt they will.

These women are playing more for pride than anything else. They're playing for the logo on their chest, the country they call home and all the little girls out there who want to be just like them one day...something some of these ladies never had.

Go USA softball, bring home the gold and hopefully we'll have a chance to see the gold medals of Monica Abbott and Kelly Kretschman next year at Glory games.
